Waipara Springs just 45 minutes drive from Christchurch, is rapidly expanding itself as one of New Zealand’s up and coming wine districts The area is hot and dry in the summer and autumn and is sheltered from the sea breezes by a low set of hills to the east and as in other parts of New Zealand, dry cropping and pastoral farmland has proven to be ideal for grape growing. The soils, mainly clay loam over limestone, are relatively free draining and ideally suited to Pinot Noir.
